Constructions realised 'mechanically'

Painting and its laws included a couple of diagrams in which Gleizes showed how the basic schema of translation and rotation:

could be used to 'realise mechanically, with hardly any personal initiative, a spatial and rhythmic plastic system through the combination of simultaneous movements of rotation and translation with movements of translation of the plane from side to side.' 


We reproduce below a series of exercises in the same vein done by Jellett, showing hat even at this most 'automatic' stage, using uniquely the material provided by the most elementary expression of the formula, considerable variety is possible:
